TUESDAY SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan boys spread the wealth … – Meriden Record-Journal
WALLINGFORD — Tight defense and a balanced attack added up to a 44-38 victory over Platt Tech on Tuesday night for the Sheehan boys basketball team.
The Titans put nine players in the scoring column, led by Brady Rossacci’s 12 points and Kade Marcantonio’s 11, in improving to 3-10.
Down 11-9 after the first quarter, Sheehan outscored the visiting Panthers 29-7 over the middle frames.
Jermaine Sheppard put up a game-high 20 points for Platt Tech (7-8).
Notre Dame-West Haven 98, Lyman Hall 29: The Green Knights improved to 13-2 and knocked the Trojans to 6-8 with the SCC Hammonasset romp in Wallingford.
Timaury Gay racked up 30 points for ND and Tajea Jones added 17.
Tyler Casey (14) and Chace Sealy (9) were the top scorers for LH.
Xavier 74, Cheshire 45: Anthony Parker scored 23 of his game-high 25 points in the first power to catapult the Falcons past the Rams in Middletown on Tuesday night.
Xavier improved to 10-4 and Cheshire dropped to 3-10.
Jack Markarian and Jackson Enders both scored 10 points for the Rams.
Windham Tech 81, Wilcox Tech 39: The Tigers drained 10 3-pointers en route to the CTC win in Meriden.
Brady Marsh (12 points) had four of them. Trey Lindsey delivered a game-high 17 points for the visitors, now 11-3.
Wilcox (3-12) got four 3-pointers and 12 points from Morrison Beck. Andy You added 8 points.
Girls basketball
Windham Tech 46, Wilcox Tech 17: The Tigers lowered a quick boom in this CTC showdown in Windham, jumping to a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
Baylee Miller popped three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points to lead the home team. Zulal Kungal had 8 points and Sadie Vernon added 6 for Wilcox.
The two teams entered the game with the best records in the CTC and they still have them — Windham at 12-4, Wilcox at 10-4.
New Britain 36, Maloney 25: The Golden Hurricanes scored the CCC crossover win on their home court to raise their record to 11-5.
Janessa Yaconiello (17 points) and Janyah Tirado (10) were in double figures for New Britain.
Skyler Burke paced Maloney (6-8) with 10 points and Evelyn Beltran added 7. Amaya McNeil made her varsity debut for Maloney and delivered 6 points and 10 rebounds.
East Hartford 55, Southington 48: The Hornets jumped out to a 24-9 first-quarter lead to top the Lady Knights in a CCC interdivisional matchup in East Hartford.
Savannah Morgan (15 points) and Nia Edens (13) were the top scorers for Hornets, now 8-5.
Southington (7-7) got four 3-pointers and a game-high 16 points from Lily Cooper. Gabby Dangelo hit three times from beyond the arc and finished with 10 points.
Foran 46, Cheshire 33: After the host Rams dug out of an early 10-1 hole to take a 21-20 lead by halftime, the Lions regained control by outscoring Cheshire 16-6 in the third quarter.
Foran improved to 13-3 with the SCC interdivisional win. Cheshire fell to 3-13.
Gracie Brooks (15 points) and Faith Doyle (14) paced the Milford squad. Anna Hurlbut led CHS with 10 points. Allie Grove and Ella Kulas were good for 8 apiece.
Ice hockey
Southington Co-op 5, Rocky Hill Co-op 2: The Blue Knights (1-11) won their first game of the season, beating the Terriers (2-10) in a CCC South matchup late Monday night at Champions Rink in Cromwell behind a hat trick from Gabe Mohr.
Down 2-0 after one period, Southington-Coginchaug-Westbrook took control with four goals in the second frame.
Christos Wheatley and Drew Nafis also scored for the Blue Knights. Nik Allan, Jasen Hurley (2), Tyler Schmarr, Jack Ford and Jake Nafis had the assists.
Max Scirocco made 32 saves in net.
Boys swimming
Southington 93, Hall 93: The Blue Knights (6-0-1) forged the CCC West draw with the Titans at Cornerstone Aquatics Center by taking the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay.
Peter Zalewski, Alex LeClair, Mike Zalewski and Matt Niro combined on the winning time of 3:28.34.
Leading off that relay capped another solid day for Peter Zalewski. The junior swept the distance freestyles, posting times of 1:48.85 in the 200 and 4:54.45 in the 500.
Matt Siwek was also a double-winner, sweeping the freestyle sprints with a 22.88 in the 50 and a 50.47 in the 100.
Diving went to Southington’s Alex Rosania, who posted a score of 282.30
Oxford 91, Cheshire 76: The Rams fell to 3-4 with the non-conference setback Monday in Oxford.
Kristian Adlianitski and Omkar Narayanan did win two individual events apiece for Cheshire. Adlianitski prevailed in the 200 freestyle (1:54.78) and 500 free (5:13.36). Narayanan captured the 200 IM (2:20.22) and 100 butterfly (1:01.09).
Two races were decided by .01 of a second and both were won by Oxford: the 200 freestyle relay and the 50 free.
Alex Fang was involved in both. He anchored the 200 free behind Zack Schnitzer, Kevin Xie and Silas Wang, who combined on a 1:40.08.
In the 50 free, Oxford’s Noah Bourdoulous swam a 23.26 to Fang’s 23.27.
Fang bounced back to beat Bourdoulous in the 100 free, touching in 51.25 to the Oxford swimmer’s 51.89.
Cheshire’s closed out the meet winning two events behind Silas Wang. He took the 100 breaststroke (1:06.44) and teamed with Adlianitski, Schnitzer and Fang on the 400 freestyle relay (3:36.19).
