Griner, who soon realized she might be a homosexual and not the “normal girl” that her father would expect, soon started hiding things from her father. She even told her mother about her developing identity. But was unwilling to do so with her father. BG discussed her relationship with her father and how it started falling apart.

“There was no road map for how to handle my dad if he discovered my secret. All bets were off. And I think I started to believe the day would never come. I made it all the way to senior year of high school without him finding out. By senior year, I had basically stopped speaking with him, beyond a few words here and there…All my actions around him felt strained.”

Brittney went on to explain how things finally changed in her life. Those who already know about the WNBA star’s life will remember that she moved out of her house and went on to live with her College coach Kim Mulkey.

“He obviously suspected I was gay because he would occasionally say something cryptic…Several of my teammates in high school were openly gay and I knew my dad disliked them.”
